I was on the CI from 72-75. First as a 'DECK APE' then struck for Radiomen.
Got to RM3. Lots of good times and good friends. I do believe I was the LAST MAN DRAFTED ! Sure did travel the east coast alot, with a trip to Spain and Norway.
Way cool. Have belonged to the American Legion, in Wyandotte, Mich. for years now, just to be proud that I served. |

Hello to Mike Hennessy. I served on CI as RM1 in 73 and 74. Went on cruise to Halifax, Bergen Norway, Spain, and Canary Islands. Went through overhaul in Hoboken and lived through GTMO. In total, served on 8 surface ships and was tad on 3; so I have difficulty remembering you. I'm sure we crossed paths - at least in the mess. Spent an awful lot of time in the Bermuda Triangle. CI went to Port Canaveral and carried spectators for sub missle launch. Still lots of memories of CI, shipmate. |

I was a ET# on board the Compass Is from 1967-68. During an evening movie, we were told that we would be putting to sea as soon as the Captain was aboard. We left the Brooklyn Naval Shipyard with the refueling barge still attached and with many of the crew still not aboard. We thought we were going to war... (The biggest gun that we had on board was a 12-gauge shotgun.) After we were at sea, we were told that we were steaming to the Azores to search for the Scorpion. We searched for anything in the water as well as utilized our sonar. It could print out the outline of a car on the bottom. A group of us left the ship at the Azores and the missing crew from NYC came aboard. |

I still live in Bel Air, Maryland. I volunteer in the Johns Hopkins University Alan Chesney Medical Archives as I worked in the School of Medicine for 27 years. My husband is still the president of Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System. We keep busy with lots of fund raising for the new hospital towers rising out of the ground in East Baltimore. If you are ever in Baltimore, let me know and I will give you a guided tour of the #1 hospital in America!! Have fun at the reunion. |

Hi 69er's,
After retiring from GM my wife and I accepted jobs as co-managers of an Independent Living Retirement community. The position requires us to live on-site (they provide one of our 112 apartments) because we are on call after hours in the event of an emergency for one of our 90+ residents. In this capacity we get Wednesday evenings off plus our weekends which start around 9:30 Sunday mornings and ends at 11:30 Tuesday mornings. This schedule coupled with the fact that we have to work there a year before we are eligible for vacation makes the possibility of making it to the 40th reunion very slim.
We've decided that we enjoy the field of working with the seniors and running a community but we're not too thrilled with staying there 4 nights a week, especially from Thursday through Sunday morning. It pretty much ruins any socialization with friends or family. Consequently, we have begun a search for managing or marketing positions with communities that would allow us to work Monday-Friday, 8-5 or so, then we can go home and regain our evenings and weekends. We keep checking the internet for openings at The Worthington, St. Leonard's, 10 Wilmington Place, Grand Court, Sycamore Glen, Bethany Lutheran Village, and any others that we can find in the Dayton area. I also keep looking for jobs in my retired profession of Education, Training, and Organizational Development. We would really like to move back home. Thirteen years in Michigan has been way too many.
If one or both of us can find new jobs before the reunion we would love to attend Friday and Saturdays activities. If not, maybe we can make the 50th.
Those attending, please tell everyone "hi" and if anybody knows of any job openings PLEASE let us know.
Sincerely,
Tim Shroyer |

40 years?! I don't even feel 40!
Looking forward to coming back for the reunion and reconnecting with everyone. I just discovered the site and am still stunned to learn of all the losses... particularly Chuck, Chip and Larry. Aren't we all too young to go?
If you're ever in San Francisco, please call! We live in the heart of Russian Hill, near all the sites and sounds.

Great website! I didn't actually graduate from Centerville, but went to John Hole from 1st through 6th grade. My family moved to Greenville, OH, which I absolutely hated, & my heart was always here in warm & cheerful. I moved back with my husband & children in 1985 & have coached cheerleading for CHS on & off for 20 years. Once an ELK, always an ELK! |
